Note 2: The lower the Alexa rating the more popular the website is. For example an Alexa rating of say 500,000 would mean that this site is the 500,000th most popular site on the internet. If this example doesn't sound very impressive; bear in mind there are millions of sites on the net and the majority of marquee hire company websites are not popular enough to be indexed by Alexa. We are also a niche market, mainly confined by UK internet searches.

Note 3: This is the second update (previously done in September 2006). We would not expect to update this list more often than every 6 months.

Important Disclaimer: Alexa admits that sites in the 100,000+ category (World popularity) are not accurate. Since every site in our industry is well above 100,000+ it seems logical that the above data should be used for entertainment purposes only. The Alexa toolbar and data is influenced by such factors as a heavily weighted US and Chinese user feedback. In the US a marquee is not a tent and we doubt whether the Chinese would even search the web for marquees or related English spelling queries. The UK popularity data (of which few in our industry make it into the stats) may be a more reliable indicator of popularity.

Analysis of Data: We would expect the top 5 to have more than 10,000 monthly visitors to their websites and to make it into the top 10 a site would need perhaps 5,000 to 6,000+ monthly visitors.

If your site is not listed, take heart in the fact that out of the estimated 800 -1,000 UK marquee companies, less than 5% actually seem to take internet marketing seriously. You have to ask yourself what is the point of having a website if no one can find it? The web is a powerful tool and it can turn a small business into a multi million pound venture.

Most of the sites listed have been on the web from between 1999 and 2001 - this as we all know is a major factor (age) in the Google rankings (We have written a 3 page article on good website design, optimisation, links and getting top search results - click here for further reading).

Our own site is somewhat of an exception to the age rule, having only been launched in February 2006.
