For marquee functions, weddings and events over about 75 guests, organisers should seriously consider hiring portable toilets. If the marquee event is located at a private house it is highly unlikely that the existing toilet facilities will be able to cope with the demand.

Portable toilets are available in all sizes and styles starting with individual free standing portable toilet cubicles which are ideal for a small number of guests. These toilets are also widely used in large numbers for outdoor events and shows.

For a little more luxury there are many UK companies hiring portable toilet trailers in various sizes starting with small two cubicle units often called 1+1 units. Larger portable units are available for greater guest numbers. For example a unit referred to as a 3+1 will typically have 3 ladies cubicles, 1 gents cubicle, a couple of urinals and wash hand basins in both compartments.

Early Luxury Portable Toilets

The first recorded luxury portable trailer loo in the UK was this unit by Regency Events of Guernsey in 1992.

The trailer was designed and built in the UK and then fitted out by craftsmen to an extremely high standard in the Channel Islands.

The unit brought portable toilets for corporate events, parties and society weddings to a whole new level, never seen before. The toilet trailer was the talk of every event it attended and was even picked up in an article by the Times newspaper.

A black tie attendant kept the upmarket trailer loo spotless during the event.

The toilet trailer was a fairly small 2+1 (2 ladies cubicles / 1 gents cubicle) suitable for guest numbers up to about 180.

What made this unit different from other portable loos of the period was the level of luxury. Inside the trailer it was carpeted, all the woodwork was mahogany. The walls were covered in expensive wallpaper with gold plated taps, gold plated wall lights, walnut framed mirrors and pictures. Fresh flowers, fine soaps and perfumes were supplied with the portable toilets for all events.
